Slide 58: one of a collection of lantern slides shown at Clondalkin branch library c 1910. Description given in booklet: We now cross the Jezreel or Esdraelon – the great battlefield of the Jews. It is extremely fertile, and extends from the Jordan to Mount Carmel, on the shores of the Mediterranean, and until quite recently was over-run by hordes of wild Bedouin. A firm of bankers from Beyrout and Damascus now owns a great part of it, and under its better management it shows that good and abundant crops can be produced with a little care and tranquility.en_IE
