The 1914 Star is also called the "Mons Star. 378,000 were issued in total. The criterion for the award was that the recipient served in France or Belgium between the dates of 5th August 1914 and the 22nd of November 1914. It consists of a three poined star surmounted by a crown and a fixed ribbon loop. The year "1914" appears in the centre with "Aug" above and "Nov" below, all surrounded by a laurel wreath. The Royal Cipher GV appears at the bottom. The reverse is plain with the name, rank and number of the recipient. The bar on the ribbon of this example indicates that the recipient was under fire (or within range of enemy artillery) between the qualification dates mentioned above.en_IE
