Description: | Postcard of the London & North Western S.S. "Hibernia" which first entered service in January 1900 as an express passenger and Royal Mail steamer between Holyhead and the North Wall Dublin and later Dun Laoghaire. Commandeered by the Admiralty in WW1 and renamed HMS Tara, she was torpedoed and sunk on the 5th November 1915 by German submarine U35 and the survivors spent a miserable 4.5 months as prisoners of the Turks until eventually rescued. |
