| Description: | Coin issued in 1966 for the 50th anniversary of the 1916 Rising. 22 carat gold weighing 4oz. The coin shows Pearse on the front. The reverse shows Ireland as a woman holding a laurel wreath. In front, a volunteer kneels presenting her with a lighted torch representing freedom. It bears the quote "We pledge our lives and the lives of our comrades-in-arms to the cause of its freedom, of its welfare and of its exaltation among the nations".The coin was designed by Paul Vincze (1907 – 1994). |
