Captain Noel Lemass (1897-1923) fought in the General Post Office during the Easter Rising 1916 and also in the War of Independence (1919-1921). He was a member of the anti-Treaty forces who occupied the Four Courts during the Civil War. Two months after the end of the Civil War he was kidnapped in Dublin and murdered and on 13th October 1923 his mutilated body was discovered on the Featherbed Mountain close to the Glencree Road, where this memorial stone honours his memory.en_IE
