The back of Sean Connolly's memorial card. Sean connolly had been killed at City Hall in the first few hours of the rising. On arrival at the gates of Dublin Castle he had shot the policeman on duty, constable James O'Brien, when he attempted to shut the castle gate. Sean's unit took up positions in the area and he entered Dublin City Hall (to which he had the keys as a corporation employee based there). His unit was engaged by British troops firing from Dublin Castle and Sean was shot and killed on the roof of city hall by a sniper. He had inflicted the first Crown Force's fatality of the Rising and became the first Republican fatality.en_IE
