Black leather pickelhaube helmet, with Prussian Line eagle plate and detachable screw-on spike. Complete with leather chinstrap and Prussian and Reich cockades. Metalwork is grey-painted steel.Worn by non-commissioned ranks from September 1915. This form of helmet replaced the earlier M1895 pickelhaube, using grey-painted steel fittings as a cost-saving alternative to brass and white metal. The spike was detachable and not intended to be worn in the field, but most soldiers left it on.en_IE
