dc.description | During WW1, silk postcards were bought as souvenirs by soldiers from local French and Belgian women. The women embroidered the different motifs onto strips of silk which were sent to factories to make postcards. This example has embossed edges and is made of two pieces of silk sewn and mounted to form an envelope which would have originally contained a card. It bears the message "Souvenir de Lille" | en_IE |
