During WW1, silk postcards were bought as souvenirs by soldiers from local French and Belgian women. The women embroidered the different motifs onto strips of silk which were sent to factories to make postcards. This example has embossed edges and is made of two pieces of silk sewn and mounted to form an envelope. Image is of a vase of flowers under which is the message "To my Dear Sister" which contains a card with a message "To my Dear Sister".en_IE
