Issue Date: 22-Apr-1916
Description: Final issue of the “Irish Volunteer” newspaper. This publication played an important role in disseminating news and political commentary to the Irish Volunteers. It also provided information about training and military strategy to members. When the MacNeill/Redmond split happened in September 1914, the “Irish Volunteer” took Eoin MacNeill’s side. After a brief gap in publication, it was relaunched with MacNeill’s name under the masthead as editor. This final edition dated 22nd April 1916 is significant as it was the last issue. Published the day before the Rising, an item of particular interest is the column headed “Notes from Headquarters”: “Arrangements are now nearing completion in all the more important Brigade areas for the holding of a very interesting series of manoeuvres at Easter”
