dc.description | Three letters to Archbishop William Walsh from Arnold F. Hills, two of which are copies of letters sent by Mr. Hills to David Lloyd George. Arnold F. Hills was a millionaire British industrialist, President of the London Vegetarian Society and the owner of Thames Ironworks. He helped in the transformation of the Works' football club into what is now West Ham Football Club. In these letters he suggests alternatives to the partition of Ireland, and warns of disastrous consequences if it were to be implemented: "...it [partition] would rend the seamless garment of Irish Unity" In the letters, he cautions against proposed partition of Ireland and calls upon the Catholic Church to oppose it. | en_IE |
