Slide 32: one of a collection of lantern slides shown at Clondalkin branch library c 1910. Description given in booklet: Walking round the temple enclosure a little north of Robinson's Arch we come to an interesting section of the wall, known as “The Jews’ Wailing Place,” where the Jews assemble every Friday afternoon. It is a small quadrangular area, roughly paved with large square stones, between low houses and the sanctuary wall, and it is doubly interesting from the fact that the magnificent stones, of which the lower courses are built, are veritable remains of Solomon’s Temple. For many generations, at least once a week, the Jews are permitted by a special firman to approach the precincts of their temple, and to one with any feeling, it is a touching sight to see them manifest affection to the venerable wall, while they kiss the very stones and bathe them with their tears, at the same time offering up fervent prayer to their God.en_IE
