dc.description | Slide 68: one of a collection of lantern slides shown at Clondalkin branch library c 1910. Description given in booklet: On the face of the lake itself Time has written no wrinkle. It is fresh, free, and beautiful as it was eighteen centuries ago. There it lies, offering its glassy bosom as a mirror for the grandeur of the mountains, the glories of the rising and setting sun, and the stars of night, or as a stage on which the tempest might walk around. In the little life that now pervades the shores of the Sea of Galilee, one may daily see repeated the references made to it by the simple records of the evangelists; the casting of the nets; the abundant supply of fish; the scattered flocks; the Sea; often tempestuous, whilst the fishing boats involuntarily carry our minds back to the incidents we read of in the ‘Old, Old Story.’ The mud hovels in the picture represent Magdala, the home of Mary Magdelene, when our Lord came ashore after feeding the multitude on the opposite side. | en_IE |
