| dc.description | Information courtesy of 'Cinema Treasures': Located in Lucan, A travelling cinema tent was set up on this Lower Main Street site. It came in 1939 and stayed at the rear of Mary Maloney’s shop for a month and proved so successful that it stayed full time. The 990-seat Premier Cinema was built on the site, beginning in late-1939. It was constructed of concrete due to building material restrictions in World War II. It was operating by 1945 and was equipped with an Electra sound system. The stage size was approximately 70ftx20ft and there were two dressing rooms at the rear. This was the first cinema owned by the Dublin Cinema Group headed by Kevin Anderson (later Paul Anderson), who were later to team up with Leo Ward to become the Ward-Anderson chain. The name was changed in 1967 to the Grove Cinema when the cinema was renovated to provide a reduced seating capacity of 750 seats and was then equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. Among artists who appeared on the stage are Erskin Childers in 1972 and Brendan Grace started his tour of Ireland in the cinema. Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger & Marianne Faithful attended a private screening of a movie that Bob Dylan had made. The Grove Panoramic Cinema was closed on 26th March 1986.
