Description: | Letter to Archbishop Byrne by the Kilmainham Female Hunger Strikers Kathleen (Kitty) Costello, Nelly Ryan (sister of Dr. Jim Ryan) and Annie O’Neill requesting that they receive Holy Communion daily until their death. Over 90 women went on hunger strike in Kilmainham March 1923 over withdrawal of postal facilities. This protest ended successfully on 22 March, after which another hunger strike was started to force the women's release. Some of the hunger-strikers were released towards the end of April after concerns about their health. |
