Description: | Oral history interview. An interview with Willie and Bernie Roche. Willie grew up in Bohernabreena and he began work in Urney Chocolates in 1950, joining several friends and family. Bernie Roche nee Carroll was born in Balrothery, where many generations of the Carroll family had lived. She recalls that many local people were employed by Urney. Her father was a boilerman there and in 1959 she began work at Urney with her two sisters. Willie and Bernie discuss the management of the factory, the workplace and the takeover by H.W. Grace. Willie recalls the various jobs he held at Urney, including working in the dairy. He describes the social life among the employees. The length of this interview is fifty one minutes. |
