Description: | The plaque is located upstairs in the new extension to St. Mary's School,Sandyford which was opened on 28th February,2012. It was originally sited at Entrance Door to school when unveiled on 27th June 2009. Please note "cailc agus glantoir" details. Mr O'Keeffe was a legendary and highly talented teacher who could have adapted his skills in whatever era or area he was called upon to serve the pupils and community.It was said that "the school became his second home,the pupils his second family". During his long period of service many of the pupils were preparing for employment in the surrounding granite quarries and farms,so he incorporated Mechanical Drawing and Rural Economy into the curriculum in order to give them some grounding for the work that lay ahead. He is remembered with great affection. |
