dc.description | Contemporary diary of events of 1916 written as they happened on a blank quarry invoice. The invoice shows evidence of having been folded and stored in a pocket. Inscribed '1916' at the top and containing several daily entries. Many names and locations mentioned in entries including 'At No. 5 till 12 Midnight' this refers to No. 5 Blackhall Street, Dublin (since demolished)- the HQ of the Colmcille Branch of the Gaelic League 'Letter from S. McDermott for MacNeil(?), 'At No. 5, MacDonagh and 3 others'. Mention under 'Wednesday' of a gunboat. The Gunboat Helga sailed up the Liffey on Wednesday the 26th of April. Under Saturday is written 'Impossible. GOC Surrender (illegible) Ceasefire' which corresponds with Patrick Pearse’s surrender. Entries for Sunday are the names of the various garrisons which surrendered on that day throughout the city. | en_IE |
