The colourised postcard depicts a lady feeding swans in front of Celbridge Abbey Co. Kildare, which was built in 1697 by Bartholomew Van Homrigh, Lord Mayor of Dublin. His daughter, Esther was immortalised as ‘Vanessa’ by Jonathan Swift. Chief Justice Marlay bought Celbridge Abbey in 1723 and his grandson, Henry Grattan lived here. The Rock Bridge in the grounds of the Abbey, is said to be the oldest remaining stone bridge crossing the River Liffey.en_IE
