Yeats entitled 'The Liffey Swim' for which the painter won a silver medal at the Paris Olympic exhibition in 1924. The swimmers traditionally raced downriver 1.5 miles from Victoria Quay to Butt Bridge and prizes were awarded to the six winning competitors. The Liffey Swim remains a popular annual event in Dublin’s sporting calendar since 1920.en_IE
