Description: During WW1 silk postcards were bought as souvenirs by soldiers from local French and Belgian women. The women embroidered the different motifs onto strips of silk which were sent to factories to make postcards. This example has two pieces of silk sewn and mounted to form an envelope which contains a card message. The postcard has embossed edges and shows a bouquet of flowers and bears the greeting "Happy Easter". The card within depicts three golden winged bells and contains a "Happy Easter" greeting.
