Description: During WW1, silk postcards were bought as souvenirs by soldiers from local French and Belgian women. The women embroidered the different motifs onto strips of silk which were sent to factories to make postcards. This example has embossed edges and is made of single piece of silk sewn and mounted to form a foldable card. To the front is an image of a flower-filled sail boat and "To my Dear Mother" in print. The card opens out to reveal the message "Far from you, but thinking of you" and a verse of poetry.
