Cur Síos:	Original copy of the "Castle Document" in pamphlet form. It was distributed in Dublin on Wednesday of Holy Week 1916. The original document was based on a genuine plan by the British authorities in Dublin Castle, but was added to and “enhanced” (by Joseph Plunkett) before being printed in order to try to convince Eoin MacNeill that a crackdown on the Irish Volunteers was imminent, and therefore mobilisation for the Rising should start immediately. The thinking was that if a document could be found and shown to MacNeill with details of such a plan, the Rising could go ahead. It was his view all along that an armed insurrection that was doomed to failure was immoral. MacNeill was convinced by the document, but the failure of Casement’s plan to import arms on the Aud changed his mind making him countermand the order to parade on Easter Sunday.
