Cur Síos: Letter from General John Maxwell, Officer Commanding HM Forces in Ireland, to Archbishop William Walsh protesting at political demonstrations that were taking place outside Requiem Masses for those killed in the Rising. He fears disorder and bloodshed and asks the Archbishop to intervene. Maxwell presided over the military tribunals which ordered the execution of the 15 leaders of the Rising. The Archbishop's reply contains references to public anger at the executions and events at Easter.
