Cur Síos: Slide 4: one of a collection of lantern slides shown at Clondalkin branch library c 1910. Description given in booklet: Soon Bethlehem comes into view, a white-walled village of about 3000 inhabitants. It stands on the crest of a ridge of limestone, but as it is surrounded by higher hil1s, the view is not very extensive. The town is renowned in Old Testament history, and here happened that event, which was so long foreshadowed, and which has had such an influence on the world at present and the world to come. Here the eternal God veiled, yet manifested Himself in human form. The King of Glory was found" as a babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." The Church of the Nativity is built over what is supposed to be the actual site of the birth of Christ. The evidence, though very strong, is not quite conclusive, but the balance of probability is in favour of the truth of the tradition.
