Cur Síos: | Slide 33: one of a collection of lantern slides shown at Clondalkin branch library c 1910. Description given in booklet: It was near this well that Jonathan lay hid during the rebellion of Absalom, in order to collect news for David, and afterwards Adonijah slew sheep and oxen by Enrogel when making feasts for the people at the time of his conspiracy. The well, called the pool of Job, although the patriarch could have had no connection with it, is a singular work of ancient enterprise, and the water is pure and entirely sweet, quite different from that of Siloam, which is not far off. Near this well is a forsaken looking tree which is said to be the one that Judas hanged himself on. Of course there is not the slightest foundation for fixing this as the site of that event, but it is mentioned to show how apt tradition has been to take advantage of the credulous. |
