Cur Síos: Slide 73: one of a collection of lantern slides shown at Clondalkin branch library c 1910. Description given in booklet: We have now reached the limits of the Holy Land, but on account of the strong interest centred in Damascus, we will end our journey there, making an excursion by the way to the mountains of Lebanon, with their famous cedars. Indeed, so strong is the association, that it may be said with truth that few English speaking people hear the one word without thinking of the other. Formerly, and indeed up to comparatively modern times, the hillside were clothed with these trees, but they were all cut down except a very few which form striking points in the picture. With the usual laissez faire policy of the Turkish Government, the hillsides have never been replanted
