Cur Síos: | Billy Leonard began working for Dublin Corporation in 1965, at the age of 17. He worked in the Finance Office under Sean Haughey, a brother of Charlie Haughey. Later, one of his responsibilities was at the City Abattoir, and also the Wash House (before the days of laundrettes). Subsequently he worked in the motor tax area, also taking a position in the Roads Department. When the Dublin County Council split into three separate local authorities in 1994, Billy opted to take up a position with South Dublin County Council. In 1980, he was one of the founder members of the Tallaght Credit Union. This recording includes many interesting anecdotes of life as a public servant in Dublin. |
