Description: | John Griffin was born in Co Cavan, and grew up in Mountmellick in Co Laois. After leaving school, he began work with a Mountmellick building contractor, with whom he moved in 1952 to Dublin, to build houses there. After further work in the electrical business, he joined the County Council in 1973, and worked for 22 years, first as a relief collector, and then as a rent collector. For much of that time he covered an area from Balbriggan to Shankill, collecting rent from County Council domestic properties. This recording includes many anecdotes of his working years and the occupational hazards of his work. |
