Cur Síos: | John Scahill, age 89, recalls a fascinating story, involving his father, who originally came from Claremorris, Co Mayo. He came to work on the Joyce family farm in Baldonnell, now the site of an aerodrome, and he later moved to a 35 acre holding of land in Ballyvahill in Skidoo. John himself worked in Clonee for a number of years, eventually coming back to take over his father’s farm, which covered 100 acres at that time. In this recording John talks about the Economic War years, and about the great fairs in Ennis and in Dublin. |
