Dáta Eisithe: | 1910 |
Foilsitheoir: | Thomas Mason Optician, 5-6 Dame St Dublin |
Cur Síos: | Slide 51: one of the latern slides shown at Clondalkin branch library c 1910 which had a printed description of the black and white slides. Below is description given in booklet that came with the slides: 51 - Bethany, from the road to Jericho In a short time we arrive at Bethany, a ruined hamlet standing on a plateau of rock. The pasturage around is good and abundant, and the olive groves ought to be a source of wealth to the inhabitants. Under a better government it might be a bright and prosperous village, but, as in too many places of this land, its only attraction consists of its hallowed associations. It was the home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus – the one stop on earth where ‘He who had not where to lay His head’ found a loving welcome and peaceful home. The houses of Simon and of Martha and the graves of Lazarus are shown to travelers. The two former are not worth a second look, the latter may be authentic – but hurrying along the road which Jesus rode on the foal of an ass – crossing the Mount of Olives on the way – we come to Jerusalem. |
