Cur Síos: | Oral history interview. John Gorman, Age 66, Horseleap, Westmeath. Subject: Memories of service in The Congo. John Gorman joined the Irish Army in Athlone at the age of 16 years. The following year he was sent to the Congo on an Irish Peacekeeping Mission with the 35th Infantry Battalion, under the command of Pat Quinlan from Waterville, Co. Kerry. He describes experiences during the Battle of Jadotville, which he strongly feels was an unjustified embarrassment to the United Nations and to the Irish government. He has been tirelessly campaigning for many years to the excellent leadership of his Commanding Officer, Pat Quinlan, recognised. The length of this recording is fifty five minutes and forty eight seconds. |
