Dáta Eisithe: | 13-Ean-2012 |
Cur Síos: | This example of the Victory Medal was awarded for service by British, Dominion, Colonial and Indian Forces, as well as nurses contracted to the British Army, in a theatre of war between 1914 and 1919. The medal was designed to be similar in appearance across the fourteen nations who fought against the Central Powers in the First World War. All the nations' designs incorporated different versions of the angel of Victory on the front, and the rainbow coloured ribbon. This had the effect of removing any national emblems or colours from the medal's design, and implied a "commonality of purpose" among the countries involved in the conflict. The British medal is named on the edge with the recipient's name, rank, number and abbreviation of the regiment or service. |
